A TRIP TO SHALLOW INLET
After a bit of planning and a bit of manipulating Ancaman Gloria DQ and i ventured down to Yanakie for the Week end
Fishing wasnt the highest priority on the list as it was planned more as an exploritory week end
BUT
lat Saturday arvo We decided to brave the rain and wind and head over to Shallow inlet for a fish off the beach
The part of shallow inlet we chose to fish is about 2 1/2 Ks inside the Entrance where the main feeder channel runs close to the beach
For this reason and with the prevailing South westerlies of Bass strait every imaginable peice of flotsam and Jestsom gets washed onto this particular stretch of sand
Everything from island tea trees pounded off by the huge wave in Bass strait to thongs from the beaches west of Geelong
We started to fish at about and hour before high tide and had to tree hop and bush bash to find a bit of beach big enough to fish off
With a 3 ft wall at our backs and a 20 knot Westerly in our face we baited up with pipi and bluebait and cast out hoping for some small salmon and mullet for bait later on in the season
tickle tickle and i had a mullet of about 320 mm Too big for a bait unless sharkin but things were looking up
5 minutes later ancas rod doubles over and peels line
This is not a mullet
after a fiesty little 5 minute fight and swirving around and through snags anca had a lovely sambo of around 2.5kgs
in the next 90 mins or so another 8 followed ranging from 1 to 2.5 kgs
even the girls got in on the act

PORTLAND QUEENS BIRTHDAY
THE REPORT
having drooled over all of the reports all season from Portland and with either work or weather in the way a window or opportunity to fish there finally opened up (although a small window it was)
here is a little report (a bit tongue in cheek) of our 07 Portland mission
Leaving Frankston at 6 pm on Saturday with Gazzes Krnic in tow off we head to Portland with a plan to sleep in the boat and head out at first lite on Sunday to catch 2 or 3 SBTs and come home sunday arvo 5 hr drive 8 hrs fishin 5 hr drive home good plan
We arrive at the Ramp and dive into the boat for a sleep
THOSE BLOODY PUBS AND THE DOOF DOOF music till 3 am no blood y sleep
ah well thats fishing
6 30 we slip the Karnic in the water (bloody ramps not steep enough wet feet)
Start the boat and its running rough but after a quick phone call to Gonz and a quick tickle of a carbi with a jammed needle and seat we are off (making sure the boat is running perfect before heading out)
lots of chat about no fish for a few days down there had us worried but we figured we wouldnt head west due to indifferent reports and wouldnt head east for the same reason but head straight out to a spot in 80 metres we had highlighted at home with an interesting line where a current would likely to be
lots of birds but none working we started to troll at 60 metres heading to our chosen startinf point through and around a few small krill patches we were joined by a pod of Dolphins at the 70 metres line and up ahead more and more dolhins and a few were cutting and diving hard (feeding) around us now
remebering they came to us not us approaching them
the rod in the left corner buckled and screamed a grabbed the rod and after a short but intense little battle my first was boated
yelling cheering and dancing over with we got the spread back out and trolled back towards a line from the strike to where we wanted to start trolling (our 80 metre line)
notice the water here was 16.6 (.3 warmer than everwhere else ) and the dolphins and seals were still around
again the left corner takes off and this time gaz grabs it and hes on whilst i leave the boat in gear for 30 seconds and sure enought the short right takes off
after much chaos and carr on weaving and dodging i gaff my fish and then give gazza a hand with his
Gaazas fish put up a fight like the ladies at a myers stocktake sale but finally we boated it and whilst it was only 4 or 5 kgs heavier than the other 2 obviosly that makes a difference
dolphins and seals were now gone and we trolled for another 2 hrs with no luck but what a great day
thanks to Anca for a few borrowed lures to suit the place
fish were taken on purple 7 inch skirts and a flouro green deep diving rapala CD9 and were full of 50mm squid
