UPDATE 6TH OCTOBER 08

water temp is now at 13.7 and the arrow squid and couta are starting to thicken up

Update September 2008 excellent catches of flatheadand snapper have come form cape shank and off barwon heads and plenty of salmon schools seem to be working the beaches

as the water temp increases so will the fishing and the reports

water temp 13.4

still cold outside but the odd boat has been fish for snapper and other reef species ouside bot Port Phillip and westernport

Couta and Arrow squid should show shortly and as the water warms the fishing (and traffic) should increase dramatically

morwong snapper and other reef species have been caught lately and some large schools of salmon have been seen on both entrance areas busting up

Cooler Water but fish still about

WHERE TO FISH OVER EASTER

makos and blues still going well off Cape Shank, Woolamai and the Nobbies witrh fish to 70 kg

bushrangers bay is worth a look for big leatherjackets pinkies and the odd small kingfish

arrow squid are about everywhere and the odd couta

OFFSHORE MARCH 08

THE WATER TEMP IS NOW EASING BACK TO 18.5 /19.5 AND THE FISHING IS NOW AT ITS PEAK

Squid have been the thickest for several years all the way from the prom to Barwon heads

I fished Saturday on Team Knotte Yette and we were plagued with squid

many makos to 75 kg and blues to 90kg have been caught in the last week along with the odd thresher and Bronze whaler

Big congrats to Matt Dinger and Jason Patterson on Matts boat Fugly with the capture of a 64.3kg mako on 6kg line class (pending club and state record) with Matt the angler and Jason the trace man

Also congrats to Young Robert Proudloch on his first ever Mako of 40.00 on 8 kg line class on Home strait

The boys on Home Strait are a credit to the sport getting several anglers this year their first fish

Also big Congrats to Mel Jackson on her first shark a blue of 30 odd kgs

offshore mid feb 08 central area

Probably the best indication of the offshore scene is a bit of a report on the Rhyll comp 08 of which i was lucky enough to fish

some 65 teams fished the comp both inside and outside tagging some 28 sharks and capturing 12

Saturday of the comp saw some ugly weather but having some of the most experianced offshore crews all fishing together many boats (including myself) ventured out

Sunday was a far better day and conditions were excellent

forst highligh on a personal note was to have 3 sharks at the back of the boat at once BUt the biggest was to have young Kane Barton on board get his first ever mako

Kanes fish went 47.9 kgs on 10 kg which for an 11 year old was awesome

big thanks to all the teams and participants for making it such a memorable tornament

Offshore Central Report Feb 1st

With water temps around 19.5 to 21degrees and reasonable weather the offshore scene has really picked up

Members Geordie Gary Snackie Kev and Paul have all been amoungst the sharks offshore with Makos and blues on the chew

Couta squid and flathead have also been good

I fished with Paul Anca Barton on Saturday 5th for a lovely mako of 43.5kg on 10kg line class

Well done to Paul on his first 4 to 1 capture of a mako and whilst Paul has caught plenty of fish  any capture of 4 times better than line class from a dead boat (not moving) was good work
