A strange season indeed in Central Bass Strait
Water Temps seem to be fluctuating almost daily of a about 1/2 to 1 degree causing the water to "TURN OVER" (change from deep blue to blue green ) which has meant the fish have been harder to find
BUT having said that the central area has been having its best run of Striped Tuna for some 10 to 15 years
the reason for this is a seasonal influx of warmer water and more bait than seen in a long time. This high amount of choice food has meant makos blues and other sharks heve been a bit harder to entice during the sanctioned tournaments recently
Theese fiesty little striped tuna are great fun on light geasr and small 3 to 4 inch skirted lures or little squid style lures
even the humble slices have been producing
the trick is find the birds then find the schools and then DONT DRIVE through them but drive around them
Strpied tuna whilst considered by many to be a baitfish IS what you eat out of a can and smoking or slicing and keeping in a brine mix is fantastic
also spanish spices and frying is another great way to eat these fish
The inshore reefs are fishing well with snapper and flatties as well as XOS leatherjacket and Barber perch all being caught
Try sabikis in 30 metres over broken bottom andf you will br suprised at what you can catch
