Whitine Elephants Gummys and Snapper in Autumn
Water Temps are still high (20+ degrees SST) and whiting are on fire al;ong the middle spit and most locations such as the sub the tortoise head bank Balnarring and Corinella
Elephants have been starting to show along the corals and rhyll area as well as up the top end in the Tooradin/joes island areas
Sanpper have been caught mostly at dusk in the main channel and around bouy 17 and bouy 5 areas with squid and pilchards the standout baits
schools of salmon and Cowanyoung have been busting up all over the bay with the black magic sabikis proving to be the weapon of choice
Gummys are a very good proposition especially after a blow or rain with the tankerton and rhyll areas as well as gardiners channel the stand out spots

Snapper patchy but gummies and whiting well under way
Westernpot has really started to fire
the snapper have been a bit patchy of late but there are still plenty of fish for those putting in the time to find them donny from gone fishing has been getting excellent bags of whiting to 47cm on the middle spit and gawaine from Think Big charter has been producing 1 or 2 Gummys along with snapper nearly every trip of late
Andy smith of gone fishing fished with Rha McClelland during an evening storm recently and whilst they managed a mixed bag of bottom fish the XOS snapper they were chasing didnt appear BUT they did get some fantastic pics of westernport

Things are really going well in westernport with snapper gummys Whiting and excellent squid and baitfish all on the go ATM Best areasfor reds have been the ever reliable Corinella, Lysaughts, Long reef, and Cowes reef and Whiting have come from balnarring TH bank and are starting to show off the middle spit

UPDATE OCTOBER 5TH
SIMILARLY WITH THE FULL MOON YESTERDAY THE FISHING IN WESTERNPORT WAS QUITE TOUGH ON THE WEEK END BUT SOME ANGLERS WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET SOME QUALITY FISH EVEN THOUGHT THE BOAT NUMBERS WHERE HUGE ON THE WATER (ESPECIALLY SUNDAY) THE BAY IS HOLDING VERY GOOD NUMBERS OF BAITFISH AT THE MOMENT IN THE WAY OF SALMON GARS YAKKAS AND COUTA WHICH HAVE BEEN GREAT FUN >>> AND WITH THE GREAT SABIKI CHALLENGE RUNNING IN CONJUNCTION THE THE MEMBRS OF THIS SITE AND THE CUSTOMERS OF GONE FISHIN AT LATHAMS ROAD IN CARRUM DOWNS MANY ANGLERS WERE OUT THERE HAVING A BALL OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS
ALSO DOING WELL IS DEDICATED WESTERNPORT FISHO ABASS WHO PERSISTED WELL ON SUNDAY AND WAS REWARDED WITH AN EXCELLENT SNAPPER OF 3.5KG AFTER A LONG NIGHT ON THE WATER
SQUID HAVE ALSO BEEN GOOD OVER THE QUIETER WEED BEDS AT HIGH TIDE WITH YAMASHITA AND GESOLA JIGS BEING THE STAND OUT ESPECIALLY IN NATURAL COLOURS WITH GOLD AND SILVER FOILS

UPDATE MID SEPTEMBER 2009
SNAPPER AND XOS SQUID ALL THE RAGE Snapper have come on the chew early this season with a couple more than the odd fish being taken in the western entrance lysaughts the corals long reef and as far up as the mouth of the tooradin channel
i was lucky enough to get out and get one myself on Sunday as well as getting 1/2 dozen ripper squid from the tyabb bank near yaringa

UPDATE MID JULY 09
The winter whiting season has been patchy with smaller numbers but quality fish coming from places such as cat bay Flinders Balnarring and Point Leo Gummy sharks have also been up and down with fish to 14kg being taken from Lysaughts Bouy 25 and Bouy17 areas
Beast baits have been eel, squid, and tuna pieces
Some quality snapper have been mixed in with them including a horse of a fish of well over 10kg taken recently by Sean

winter in westernport means calamari and now is the choice time to get out and get amoungst them
best areas have been the quail bank and tyab bank areas as well as the tug channel and right up to warneet
