UPDATE 2nd nOVEMBER 08
WESTERPORT = VARIETY
snapper whiting gummys and other species are all coming on well in Westerport
salmon yakkas and trevally are being caught in amoungst some fantastic whiting and whilst the number havent been huge the size has well and trully made up for that
catches of 25 per boat seem to be common and throw in some quality snapper to 7kg with them and a great day on the water can be had
recently many excellent catches of snapper have been taken out from corinella and Rhyll and lysaughts is still producing
quality whiting and other species have come from tanketon and the middle spit and it wont be long before the top end really fires up
Westernport continues to impress
Hastings and stony ramps have been very busy of late and many excellent reports have been filtering Through
BJ from WESTERNPORT CHARTERS reports ans Excellent week with snapper to 5kgs and in good numbers coming from the lysaughts area and all the way down to bouy 17
many of our members have had excellent sessions in both daytime and nighttime trips around the tide turns and first and last light

Westernport really turning it on
SNAPPER AND WHITING AS WELL AS QUALITY CALAMARI AND SOME FANTASTIC AUSTRALIAN SALMON HAVE ALL BEE CAUGHT DURING THE WEEK
places such as lysaughts, the corals off Corinella Joes island and the Tortiose head banck have all produced snapper
Warren and his son had a ripper day getting amoungst them

UPDATE 14th OCTOBER 2008
Warmer water than Port Phillip seems to be paying dividends with some lovely fish being caught in westernport in the last week or so
Snapper to 6.5 kg have been taken off Lysaughts Corinella Joes and Eagle Rock
Whiting have been caught around the Tortiose Head bank and Cat Bay and plenty of Salmon and Couta have been taken as a by catch
All in all Westernport is fishing well and will only improve from here on
UPDATE 6TH OCTOBER
WESTERNPORT SPRINGS TO LIFE
Typically westernport warms up a bit faster than port phillip bay and snapper whiting couta and salmon are being caught in fair numbers already
sanpper have been caught on both sides of French island as well as in the upper reaches with Boultons lysaughts and the corals being popular
couta can be a problem but are worth targetting as they eat well and provide an excellent snapper bait
the odd gummy to 8kgs have also been caught of an evening
salmon have been ixed in with the whiting coming from the middle spit and the tortoise head bank
Tooradin channell has also produced whiting leatherjacket mullet and salmon
squid are still being caughton the tyabb bank and around tankerton

UPDATE SEPTEMER 15TH 08
With a windy latter half of the week and week end on Port Pillip a few hardy souls have ventured out into westernport this week
Matt cini Had a great Day yesterday (Sunday) getting 2 lovely snapper and a very respectable gummy from the Lysaughts area
Water Temp is 13.5 up the top end and 12.5 south of Lysaughts
Squid have been in good numbers on the quail Tyabb and Sandstone Banks
Also Flinders and Balnarring are producing big calamari
The odd salmon school have been seen busting up both entrances
Whiting are showing up in areas such as the bottom end of the Middle spit cat bay and even up around Tooradin
a couple of snapper have been caught around joes
JUNE / JULY 08
WESTERNPORT HAS SEEN AN AMAZING 12 MONTHS OR SO FISHING WISE AND WITH THE REMOVAL OF NETTING FROM THE BAY ITS EVEN GOT BETTER
Matt Cini from Real Time charters reports an excellent run of winter whiting for thode prepared to brave the cold
fish are coming from the southern reaches of the bay and fish to 48 cms are not uncommon
squid have also been frequent with calamari to 3kgs coming from many places around the bay
As discovered last winter there is a small run ofwinter snapper coming from the bay similar to the winter Corio bay run
fish to 3.5 kgs turn up in patches and whilst most are caught in the dead of night they are there
Mid May 08
if westernport is meant to be slowing down well someone forgot to tell the fish
The middle spit and the corinella area has seen an excellent run of whiting to 45cm as well as salmon trevally and mullet mixed in
squid have been good from flinders cat bay and tankerton
matt cini of reel time charters reports good gummies to 16 kg are being caught regularly
salmon have been again working both entrances and the odd very big pike have been in with them
Pinkies have been caught from the bouy 28 and bouy 14 areas
this type of mixed bag fishing should continue right through to early june
April 08
Westernport continues to shine with some of the best fishing in years
Elephant fish are being caught everywhere with the Triangle and Corinella being the stand out
Gardiners has also been a prime location
Whiting this week have been excellent around the middle spit, the cut Toorradin Warneet and in Mosquito Channel
mixed in with the Whiting have been silver trevally salmon mullet wrasse grass whiting and the odd pike
Excellent gummy sharks to 24.7 kg have been taken and a lot of fish from 8 to 12 kg along the drop offs and the ledges in the main channels
snapper have been caught at the corals bouy 5 and bouy 17
Where to fish over Easter
whiting in good numbers at quail bank and middle spit
Gummies in the western arm at top and bottom of the tide
Elephants are starting to show in most areas with THB being the pick
the odd calamari have been taken around tankerton and many mixed bags including trevally whiting salmon mullet and leatherjacket are coming from the Tooradin area

with some fantastic weather in the last fortnight or so and with the westernport whiting challenge run by by the westernport angling club many anglers have been fishing the port with some fantastic results
I was lucky enough to fish the whiting challenge with GUN whiting fishos Bec Lane and Annette Mac on Annettes boat Knotte Yette and we had a ball taking some lovely fish to 46 cm from up the top end around Joes Island
Regular Contributer Garry had a great day out yesterdau from Warneet getting snapper and gummies from the deeper water
Matt Cini from reel Time charters reprts excellent gummies to 20 kg and school sharks to 14kg from the drop offs along the main channel (western side)
Dougy reports snapper and pinkies over the corals out of corinella and the odd Mulloway to 11kg have been taken at night on squid strips
Westernport report Mid Feb 08
some average weather hasnt detered the whiting and gummy fraternaty in westernport but has stopped a few of the lads running too far up the western entrance
middle spit Tooradin Warneet Bouchers the corinella banks and the cat bay area as well as flinders have been good for near bag limit catches of whiting but they have been on one minute off the next
Some days have been better than others and the key has been if you dont get one or 2 in 20 monutes move up or down the bank by 70 metres or so and try again
Matt Cini has been having an exceptional run on big gummies with fish coming everywhere thoug Joes boultons and the western entrance have been the pick
pinkies are about in good numbers over the broken ground off corinella

The first sign of the elephant fish run has started with the odd fish coming from the triangle area (tortiose head area)

WESTERNPORT BAY WHITING
Whiting are being caught in all areas at the moment but the pick seems to be he area from Yaringa through to Stoney point and the Corinella areas
Sasha From reel Deal Charters reports excellent numbers of big whiting aroung the northern end of the middle spit
I was lucky enough to get amoungst them a couple of times in the last week with whiting to 46 cm from the hastings channel and from around stony point on the edge of the main channel
The ants pants had a good day on Monday also getting some excellent whiting out of Hastings
Anthony fished the main channel banks north of stony point
Good Mate Ben fished around the Rhyll area for an excellent bag of whiting
Gummys
Matt Cini of Reel time hcarters reports many gummys ofer 10 kg in the last week or so with some specimens up to 19 kg
best baits have been salmon and best areas have been in the western entrance from bout 5 to bouy 14 at the turn of the tides
Salmon
both entrances are still producing excellent numbers of big salmon
Pinkies
good numbers of pinkies are still being caught in vthe lysaughts area at the turn of the tide
Whispers
threshers have been caught inside the western entrance feeding amoungst the salmon
a large mako has been seen 3 times now around tortiose head

Westernport Report 7th Jan 08
Well Westernport continues to be the
Whiting seem to be everywhere and whilst most fish are in the 28 to 32cm size range bigger fish are being caught in deep water
Remember size limits and return undersize fish in good health to the water
Best areas are the middle spit Tooradin and Boulton channels and on the banks around Stony and Tankerton
Matt cini reports the odd large gummy from the western entrance along with excellent whiting on the banks on the
Large schools of salmon to 2.5 kg are working both eastern and western entrances and when the weather is good this is excellent sport fishing on light gear
Remember don’t drive through the middle of a school that is busting up, instead drive up near the school and cast to it with small slices and soft plastics
Pinkies are also around in good numbers in the main channel and the corals areas and are taking half pilchards and even pipis
Dale and Bec fished early new years day for and excellent mixed bag of fish

WHITING SNAPPER GUMMIES AND EVEN THE ODD EARLY ELEPHANT AE ALL GOOD PROSPECTS OVER THE CHRISTMAS BREAK
THE MIDDLE SPIT GENTLE ANNIE CORINELLA AND QUAIL BANK HAVE ALL PRODUCED BAG LIMIT CATCHES OF QUALITY WHITING THIS WEEK
SNAPPER ARE STILL GOING VERY WELL WITH FISH TO 7.2 KG BEING CAUGHT IN THE DEEPER AREAS SUCH AS BOUY 29 AND OUT FRO MCCAFFIES REEF
GUMMIES HAVE BEEN CAUGHT IN BOUCHERS AND BOULTONS CHANNELLS AS WEL LAS OFF THE TOROISE HEAD BANK

WESTERNPORT IS CONSISTANTLY FISHING WELL AS I WRITE THIS REPORT WITH SNAPPER GUMMIES CALAMARI AND WHITING THE MAINSTAY
WHITING ARE STARTING TO BE FOUND EVERYWHERE NOW AND WITH NETTING CEASING ON THE 1st DECEMBER A STELLA SEASON LOOKS APON US.

MIDDLE SPIT, QUAILL BANK, CORINELLA LANG LANG AND THE TOP END ARE ALL PRODUCING WITH PIPIS AND BASS YABBIES THE RAGE ATM
SNAPPER ARE GOING WELL AT CORINELLA (THE CORALS) JOES EAGLE AND CRAWFISH BUT STILL LYSAUGHTS SEEMS TO BE THE PICK OF THE WEEK

YOUNG HOT SHOT EVOHUNTER TRIED SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND HIT THE WHITING ON THE WEEK END FISHING NEAR THE MIDDLE SPIT WITH HIS DAD. THE BOYS GOT 17 RIPPER WHITINH TO 46CM AS WELL AS A FEW THAT WERE RELEASED AND THEN PICKED UP 2 SNAPPER JUST FOR GOOD MEASURE

LYSAUGHTS, THE CORALS, JOES ISLAND, MCCAFFIES, TORTOISE HEAD BANK,CRAWFISH, ETC IT DOESNT MATTER WHERE YOU LOOK WESTERNPORT IS EXPERIANCING ITS BEST SNAPPER RUN IN YEARS WITH QUALITY FISH AND EXCELLENT NUMBERS COMING FROM EVERYWHERE
THE KEY IS A QUALITY WELL SET SOUNDER AND FRESH BAIT. DONT BURLEY TOO HARD OR THE COUTA WILL GIVE YOU A HARD TIME.

whiting are starting to show consistantly when conditions are settled in areas such as Stony Point, Middle spit, the ruins and Quail bank

calamari ae still going well at Flinders, Mcaffies, Stony and on some of the other banks further up with baited jigs doing well

UPDATE 8th OCTOBER
Things have really picked up this week in Westernport with a rise in water temps and a few breaks in the weather really kicking things into gear
Regular contributor and member Kev had another superb day on Westernport getting a nice gummy and a few whiting.
Kev’s gummy (app 5 Kilo) gave a great account for itself on 8 kilo gear and was caught off Hastings whilst his whiting (best 38cms) were all caught a bit south of that
New member Evohunter had a great day on the water getting stuck into some very nice fish with a nice whiting of 38 cms and a huge pike on 2kg gear that measured 78cm
Both fish were taken around the Mcaffies area
To round off the day Evo and his father came back up towards
